>Upset about NKOTBSB? Perspective and advice.

There has been a lot of serious hatred, screaming fits, tears and tantrums first about the New Kids on the Block merging with the Backstreet Boys for a worldwide tour, and then about the fact that the new website for NKOTB now charges a membership fee. I have seen a lot of comments about being bled for money and how they’re taking advantage of fans and so forth. Let me divulge a little something that might give a little perspective:

I am an author, which is not unlike being a musician in that you are creating a product for people. The average retail price of my published books is $22. When someone purchases one of my books, I as the author only receive between $2 and $4 of the $22, depending on which retailer sold the book. My publisher has to be repaid for the cost of printing among other things and I am the last person to get paid. If I had an agent, that person would get a percentage of my $2 to $4 profit per book. The music industry works in a very similar way with ticket sales, CD sales, merchandise, etc. When you add more people to it, the piece of the profit gets smaller and smaller.

In all of the anger I have seen lately, I would like to talk about a few other possibilities that might be factors in all of these changes. I am NOT saying these are the reasons why these things are happening. I’m saying they are possibilities that might have affected the way things are being operated right now.

Remember that the artist is always the last to get paid. We learned that from the TLC bankruptcy. The gross money earned has to pay for the tours, the traveling, the band, the crew, the dancers, the wardrobe, the videos, the studio time, the management team, etc., etc. Whatever is leftover goes to the artist. In this case, NKOTB was dividing it five ways. Now they’re dividing it nine ways. Like it or not, this is a business and the business has to pay for itself. People keep saying, “We were supposed to be a family!” The cold hard truth is, yes, they care about fans, but they have to pay for everything they do and make a profit to make it worth it for them too. TLC sold out tour, 20 mil records and only made about $70,000 each after everything was repaid to the record label, etc., for that year. It’s not as glamorous as we think. Do not mistake me. NKOTB isn’t hurting for money like TLC was, in my opinion, but this big merger has to pay for itself.

There is also another thing to consider. Think about when these dates go on sale. BSB has had paid membership to their website with presales to concerts and stuff for years. When things would have gone on sale and we all would have seen BSB fans getting presale tickets, I guarantee there would have been a huge uproar like there is right now. So it was either have an uproar over BSB getting presale without us to our collective shows or an uproar over making everything streamline between the two groups. I don’t think anybody would have been happy either way NKOTB went.

The bottom line is this new fan club thing has happened. You can join or not. I just encourage people to think about all sides of the argument before flipping out in a rage. Truthfully it’s naïve to think that this isn’t a business that has to make a profit. You can choose to be miserable or you can choose to go with the flow or not participate.

I don’t think this is the end of the world. Several people I know have had devastating news, lost loved ones and have been suffering a lot recently. When you face the deaths of people you love and you find your lives changed forever by cancer and other illnesses, as people I know have, little things like the choice to join a fan club or not really doesn’t matter. Music groups like NKOTB and BSB are around to inspire fun in people’s lives. If you’re not having fun with them anymore, then there is nothing that says you are required to be part of their scene. You can still be a fan and enjoy the music and the friends you’ve made without going bankrupt or feeling like you’re a bad fan for not doing every little thing. Nobody is holding a gun to your head. If you can’t do it or don’t want to do it anymore, then it’s perfectly okay to devote your time and energy to something else that makes you happy. In my view, devoting such negative time and energy to complaining, investing in anger, etc., is going to hurt you a lot more than anyone else. I advise finding another way to channel all of this energy that isn’t so negative.

Did Isis become the Virgin Mary?

Posted by Jessica Jewett 23 Comments »

Virgin Mary, IsisThe supreme mother of the universe. She is loving, wise, courageous and sacrifices herself and her family for the benefit of mankind. In modern Christian culture, this description fits the Holy Mother, the Virgin Mary, but three thousand years ago and longer, this description also fit the most powerful Egyptian goddess, Isis. At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than a religious coincidence but there is also the possibility that they are the same entity altered by man to fit cultural needs. It is my belief that all religions are fundamentally based on the same principles and there should therefore not be any fighting or wars over the mundane differences. The mundane differences are, in fact, corruptions man has brought into the purity of universal spirituality. Peeling back the layers of muck and filth that man has covered over in the truth of the afterlife allows one to realize bigger possibilities.

There are a lot of similarities between the lives of Mary and Isis. I, for one, do not feel that this is a coincidence. Since ancient Egyptian religion is much older than Christianity, it might be possible that Christians borrowed and adapted the ancient stories to make them more “user friendly” in their contemporary times. I believe we can trace the beginning of life on Earth and the truth of the afterlife by treating every religion like a map, one leading into another until you get to the beginning, instead of allowing the different faiths to fight each other. All religions are valid. All religions are true. Stripping away what man has done to the afterlife will create a clear vision into our history as souls. I began to recognize this larger philosophy about thirteen years ago when I found myself pulling away from the restrictions of Christianity into the freedom of older Earth-based religions, Egyptian included. I noticed right away that Mary and Isis are presented in very similar ways. Here are some of them.

  • Isis was the most prominent female figure in ancient Egyptian religion. Mary is the most important female figure in Christianity.
  • Isis had a son named Horus. Mary had a son named Jesus.
  • When Horus was born, his father, Osirus, was already dead, which is very much like the birth of Jesus, fathered by the Holy Ghost.
  • Both Isis and Mary are depicted in art as being maternal and holding their infant deities.
  • Isis protected Horus from an evil uncle, which was much like Mary protecting Jesus from King Herod.
  • Both Isis and Mary have primary roles in their respective religious movements as the eternal mother.
  • “Lady of Light” is a title given to both Mary and Isis. The infant Horus was born as the god of light for Egypt, while Jesus is known as the light of the world.
  • Isis has a solar disk of light over her head and Mary has a halo of light above her head.

The brief research yielding eight parallels between these two holy figures reaches beyond coincidence. I do not believe this is a case of reincarnation, unless I believe that the story of Mary being a human woman here on Earth was a literal event. I believe that this holy entity – this female companion to the male holy entity – is a continuous celestial being existing in the afterlife and she has gone through several names due to cultural changes in the world. She could have taken human form as Mary for a short time to produce Jesus for the world, or the Mary and Jesus story could have happened in the afterlife like it did with Isis and Horus. It could also simply be one spiritual event, meaning it happened once but the Egyptians altered the story to fit them and the Hebrews altered the story to fit them. I don’t know. I wasn’t there to see Jesus or Horus or that one deity being born. For all we know, the Savior’s real name isn’t even Jesus or Horus.

I took my theory beyond Isis and Mary and I looked into other cultures throughout history. Look at this list.

  • Aphrodite – Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty
  • Artemis – Greek Goddess of Hunting and Vegetation
  • Athena – Greek Goddess of Wisdom and War
  • Ceres – Roman Goddess of Agriculture
  • Demeter – Greek Goddess of Agriculture
  • Devi – Hindu Goddess of Existence
  • Diana – Roman Goddess of Hunting
  • Durga – Hindu Goddess that Destroys Demons
  • Gaia – Greek Goddess as Mother Earth
  • Ha Hai-i Wuhti – Hopi Divine Mother
  • Hecate – Greek Goddess of Magic
  • Ishtar – Babylonian Goddess of War
  • Isis – Egyptian Goddess
  • Juno – Roman Goddess of Women
  • Kali – Hindu Goddess of Liberation
  • Kuan Yin – Buddhist Goddess of Compassion
  • Lakshmi – Hindu Goddess of Prosperity
  • Minerva – Roman Goddess of Arts
  • Mother Mary – Christian Goddess of Compassion
  • Persephone – Greek Goddess of the Underworld
  • Sarasvati – Hindu Goddess of Knowledge and Arts
  • Shakti – Hindu Goddess of Primal Energy
  • Tara – Tibetan Goddess of Compassion
  • Venus – Roman Goddess of Love and Beauty

Are these all different powerful female entities hanging out together in the afterlife? Or is it possible that these are all different names for the same powerful female entity that has existed since the beginning of time with the same powerful male entity with different historical names?

Christians will likely argue that Mary isn’t a goddess and that means the theory is null and void. The thing is, Christianity, especially Catholicism, functions a lot like Paganism but with different words. Each saint has a different purpose and different name just like the myriad of Pagan deities and we as Christians often call upon those different saints just like Pagans call on their different deities. Whether entities are called angels, demons, saints, gods or goddesses, they are still beings in the afterlife who either never incarnated as human or no longer incarnate as human. We have all called upon these beings throughout history. Christian, Catholic, Muslim, Wiccan, Druid, Egyptian magic, Buddhist, Pagan, etc. I believe that they all go back to the same beings that have been looking out for us, helping us, hurting us, etc., since the beginning of time.

God exists. Mary exists. Jesus exists. Dozens of others exist with them. They’ve all simply changed and evolved in the eyes of mankind as mankind has changed and evolved. For that reason, hating someone else’s religion is the same as hating your own.

>Demons: what are they?

Living in the Deep South gives me an interesting perspective on our cultural view of the paranormal. I was raised much further north than this and the northern perspective tends to lean towards the scientific and the practical. Conversely, there are areas of the Deep South where beliefs are steeped in the unseen world and good vs evil are very black and white concepts. This is not to say one perspective is more correct than the other but sometimes I do find myself taken aback by the ways paranormal events are interpreted. Every faith system in the world differs on the little mundane details of what the afterlife is like but most of the world’s faith systems agree on the big issues. There is a force of good and love. There is a force of evil and hate. Physical life is not the end for our souls. The choice of living a good life or an evil life determines your rewards or punishments in the afterlife. In most faith systems, there are inhuman beings on both sides that try to win us over every day of our lives. Christianity and similar religions call them angels and demons. There are also human spirits that guide, love and watch over all of us.

The one thing that I wish I could change about the general cultural view of the paranormal is that if you encounter an entity that frightens you, then it must be an inhuman spirit or a demon, depending on which term you prefer. This is simply not true. The truth is real encounters with inhuman spirits are exceedingly rare and possession is even rarer. Much of the time, especially in evangelical culture, spiritual leaders fan the flames of alleged possession in order to keep their flocks devoted to their ministries. Exorcisms are conducted by the dozens in certain churches when the reality is the majority of these people are blaming demonic activity for their untreated mental disorders. Any encounter with the paranormal is viewed as evil unless it’s a sign from God or His angels. Recognizing the difference between human and inhuman spirits is vitally important to dispelling unnecessary fears, superstition and paranoia about any paranormal encounters. In my beliefs, angels and demons do exist but encountering them is pretty rare. You’re more likely to encounter friends or family members that have passed into the afterlife but still love you enough to pop in for visits.

A human spirit is basically an entity or apparition or spiritual presence of a person who was living here on Earth but is no longer present. The rule of thumb is simple: if they were happy and loving in life, they’ll be happy and loving in death; and if they were unhappy and grumpy in life, they will be unhappy and grumpy in death. Of course there are exceptions to every rule but this is in general. It’s the unhappy human spirits that get mistaken for demons the most often. Most spirits are just looking for someone to recognize their presence, so they will do things to attract attention like messing with electronics, making noises, touching, manifesting smells, making you have certain dreams, showing themselves in reflections and to the naked eye, etc. These things can be startling to people who are not accustomed to it. It’s important to understand that getting startled does not mean they are trying to hurt you or that they are demonic. When you run into a person and they startle you, the first reaction is not to point a finger and yell, “Demon!” nor should it be when a human spirit startles you. It’s also important to understand that the vast majority of human spirits do not possess the energy to cause you harm, nor are they interested in causing harm.

An inhuman spirit is, by definition, a paranormal entity that has never lived as a human being here on Earth. Angels, demons, tulpas, elementals, etc., would be considered inhuman spirits because they have never existed outside of the realm of the afterlife as a human being. Angels are interested in preserving life for good while demons are interested in destroying life for evil. Demons seek out people weakened by emotional strife, self-loathings, and other self-destructive behavior that makes a soul an easy target. They also do this because mentally compromised people are not going to be credible in proving that they exist at all. Two forms of spiritual attack can happen when dealing with a demon and they have a great deal more strength to cause harm than any human entity.

  • Oppression: This is when an inhuman entity concentrates on wreaking havoc in your life, interfering with your relationships, physically hurting you with bruises, cuts, etc. You don’t have to have any direct contact with the demon and the oppression can go on for years without the person being oppressed even realizing the true cause. Inhuman entities have impressive strength and they have an uncanny ability to push your fears in order to establish control. Blessings, reestablishing control over your life, etc., are ways of eliminating inhuman presences. Oppression can evolve into….
  • Possession: This is when an inhuman entity literally takes control of the human body and does bad things against the person’s will, usually without their knowledge as well. In most legitimate cases, people experience blackouts of memory during the time that they were possessed and never regain memory of what happened. Possession cannot happen without your invitation. Playing with Ouija boards, doing seances, etc., are forms of inviting this kind of activity whether that is the intention or not. Exorcisms are required to rid the person of the inhuman entity.

This is an audio recording of the exorcism that was the basis for the film The Exorcism of Emily Rose. It was very loosely based on a true story. I warn you, this is not a recording for the easily frightened. Click here for the exorcism recording.

I have encountered demonic activity in my life. I don’t like to talk about it much though because I’m of the belief that talking about past experiences with evil will attract those entities again. My ex-fiance used to practice black arts before we were together, including conjuring entities to control for his own gain, and there was always something dark in our house. It attacked my brother in his sleep, gave him its name, attacked me in my sleep, etc. Insensitive skeptics can say those things were just nightmares but many of the most frightening things happened in broad daylight when I was wide awake.

Yes, I do believe demons exist.
No, I will never speak the name of the one I encountered.
